Kory believes in the aural delights of poetry and enjoys reading her own and others’ work aloud.

She has given readings at Poet’s Corner at Scarritt-Bennett, the Lyrical Brew reading series in Nashville, Poetry in the Boro in Murfreesboro, panels on the Southern Festival of Books, and other venues.

She also performs her poems with musical accompaniment by her daughter Kelsey, a roots musician, in an act that’s been called “bluegrass rap,” “hillbilly cool,” and “moving, fun, spiritual and sassy.”

The duo debuted at the 2009 Southern Festival of Books and have since performed three additional times at the Southern Festival of Books, twice on WDXV Knoxville radio’s Blue Plate Special, as the feature of the 2014 Martin Methodist Literary Festival, and at bookstores, writers’ workshops, museums, and other public and private events.

Kory and Kelsey perform at the Read to Succeed Celebrity Spelling Bee in their hometown of Murfreesboro, TN, fall 2012.
